Stella turned to call after him.

She wanted to explain, but he didn’t look back, and in the end, she remained silent.

Mina’s loathing for Stella was obvious, her emotions laid bare.
“Yes, I did it. What of it?” she confessed, unapologetic.
Stella’s countenance darkened abruptly.
“Mina, do you realize you’ve broken the law?”
Mina’s sneer was unrepentant.
“So what? You wretched woman, I’ve despised you for so long. If you hadn’t come into the picture, Farris would have married me.”
